Airbus A350 completes maiden test flight

Airbus A350 XWB

Trent XWB Engine

On the 14 June 2013, the newest aircraft from Airbus successfully completed its maiden test flight.

The A350 is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, claimed to be the most advanced and efficient in the world. The Rolls-Royce engines are designed and built in Derby and are made up of over 18,000 components. As a prefered supplier to Lionbridge, Ti-Visual was involved with the production of XWB illustrations for the technical documentation.

Some Trent XWB facts:

In the hottest part of the engine the turbine blade operates at temperatures approaching half the surface of the sun. The “cooling air” through the holes in the blade is 800C.

The high pressure blade tips reach 1,200mph - twice the speed of sound, and at take off each one of the engine's 68 blades creates the same horsepower as a Formula 1 racing engine.
